The Man from Aldersgate: John Wesley

The Renowned Cleric and Scholar Comes Alive in a Brilliant Performance

John Wesley (1703-1791) - At an early age, Wesley's eyes were opened to the English people's need for freedom from the economic and social morass engulfing them. Wesley struggled for many years before his own spiritual renaissance at Aldersgate. Even after his life-changing experience there, his trials were far from over. But he was no longer alone. For the real "Man from Aldersgate" is not John Wesley, but Jesus Christ.

Rejected by the Church of England, Wesley spent his life bringing the message of salvation to the poor, the physically and spiritually imprisoned, and the hopeless of all ages.

Founder of the Methodist Church, Oxford scholar, Anglican priest, and missionary, Wesley rode over 250,000 miles on horseback to bring spiritual renewal to 18th-century England. Besides fighting for prison reform and child labor laws, he was responsible for establishing schools, orphanages, medical care units, milk dispensaries, and shelters for battered women. He preached 42,000 sermons and wrote over 200 books including a blistering treatise condemning slavery. The life and ministry of John Wesley had profound effects on England and the United States, reaching across the years to inspire Christians to this day.
